REN Dermatology Laser Nurse

JOB PURPOSE

The Laser Nurse is responsible for patient intake, charting, advising patients as to Laser procedures/treatments, preparing and conducting Laser procedures and/or treatments. Other responsibilities include clerical and equipment duties. This position is also responsible for providing patients with an unparalleled, friendly, and respectful experience to achieve the highest patient satisfaction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Performs patient intake and skin analysis.
  • Consults with patient to assess, evaluate and perform best course of treatment/procedure.
  • Documents patient treatment plan and procedures in the Electronic Medical Records (EMA by Modernizing Medicine).
  • Educates patient on course of treatment, post-care, treatment protocols and outcome.
  • Performs Laser Services, including, but not limited to: Laser hair removal, Photofacial/Intense Pulsed Light, Fractional Ablative Laser, and treatment of Telangiectasias and Lentigos.
  • Sanitizes medical instruments and equipment.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of examination room supplies.
  • Maintains safe and secure work environment by following and enforcing OSHA standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential according to HIPAA regulations.
  • Stays up to date with new procedures, protocols and services.
  • Exhibits excellent patient care/customer service skills.
  • Participates in staff meetings and organizational programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Accredited Laser Training/Certification.
  • RN, preferred.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years in a Dermatology or Plastic Surgery office, preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Basic nursing principles and protocols.
  • Laser treatments and procedures.
  • Policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.

Skills:

  • Appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods.
  • Health information management by appropriately charting patient data.

Abilities:

  • Work effectively as a team member with other staff.
  • React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Appropriately interact with patients, families, staff and others.
  • Flexibly respond to changing demands.
  • Communicate clearly.
  • Completion of Certified Dermatology Technician course within first 90 days of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Combination of office, exam, and other clinical settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic setting.

PHYSICAL/ MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment. Occasionally lifting and carrying files up to 50 pounds. May require working under stressful conditions.
