In the spirit of the New Year, our Medical Director Dr. Jennifer Lee is sharing her best advice for following through on your best skin-tensions in 2015.

Follow her advice below, and make this year the healthiest and brightest year your skin has ever seen!

1. Moisturize daily.
It’s easiest to remember to apply moisturizer to your body immediately after bathing, so keep a big bottle of your favorite lotion/cream by the shower. Keeping your skin well moisturized can help prevent dry skin-related problems, like Asteatotic Dermatitis, especially during the winter months.

2. Wear sunscreen everyday.
Lather up! Wearing at least SPF 30 on a daily basis is important for protecting against skin cancer and preventing signs of aging. Don’t forget to re-apply every 90 minutes to 2 hours if you’re outdoors for an extended time. Hats and other sun-protective clothing are also important accessories.

3. Take off your makeup off at night.
Makeup can clog your pores while you sleep, resulting in the development of acne. Also, any night time creams or serums will be more effective if applied to clean skin. We love the Clarisonic for an even cleaner face.

4. Book a yearly mole check.
Having a dermatologist survey your body once a year is important, even if you’re diligent about resolution number two. A head-to-toe exam to look for unusual-appearing moles or other growths can help catch skin cancers early.

5. Perform monthly self skin exams.
Keeping an e ye on your moles can catch suspicious spots early. Learn what to look for here.
