Spring is here and so is the time for that dreaded spring cleaning! I am sure however, that some of you love it just as much as I do! It’s the perfect opportunity for a fresh start whether it is a new look or going through the bathroom cabinets and freshening up our products.
Some of us love to purchase new products during an impulse shop, but if you use my simple rule, you won’t break the bank and best of all you won’t have a million products underneath your counter that you never use. The rule is: change your products with the season. Just as styles change, so does our hair and skin. Spring is absolutely the best time to have your stylist customize the perfect products. Winter can take a toll on our hair, so it is important to prep our hair for a spring makeover (whether it be subtle or dramatic).
Haircare:
I recommend you replenish your hair with an at home moisture mask before you spring into the new “do”. Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oleo-Complexe is great for all types, so enjoy this beautifying oil masque without feeling weighed down. If you want to involve the kids for a fun kitchen craft, then open up the cupboard and pull out the following ingredients:
1 ripe avocado
½ teaspoon coconut oil
*double ingredients for longer hair
Mash the avocado and then whisk in the coconut oil (or blend in a food processor). Take a hand towel and dip into warm water, ring out then microwave towel for 30sec-1min. Wrap hair with hand towel, clip and keep the mask on for 20-30min. Rinse thoroughly.
Hair styles for Spring:
Wavy messy texture is not going anywhere this spring. This look can be accomplished with a curling iron or wand and a great texture spray.
Spray a section of hair and then wrap the hot tool from root to mid-shaft leaving the ends of the hair out (this gives it more of a wave vs. a curl).
Products for this look:
Oribe has an amazing wave and shine spray called Après Beach. For more of a dry texture look Prive offers Finishing Texture Spray.
Haircut for Spring:
The lob (long bob). Whether you choose to go for the sleek lob or enhance the lob with a wavy texture, this look is still on point.
Color for Spring:
Sombre is the color technique. We have all seen the Ombre (darker roots with lighter ends), but the Sombre is a softer version. Just think of sun-kissed highlights that are achieved at the beach (especially children), these are a little more subdued. This technique looks beautiful with any color palette. Example: If you have a rich brown tone for the fall/winter, your stylist can paint in panels underneath the crown with a lighter hazelnut to brighten up the face. Even a rich red color looks beautiful with a few soft panels of papaya! Be sure to bring plenty of pictures to your appointment, if you are seeking a new look. Sometimes your hazelnut or caramel is different than what we see. Never be afraid to book a consultation the day before your appointment, if you are seeing a new stylist or trying a new salon. Communication is key to the success of your new look!
Hopefully these tips will help you spring into your new look and minimize product waste by using a seasonal regimen!
